About Profiting
“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way you should go.’” Isaiah 48:17 (NASB)
“Profit” means “the good result or advantage that can be achieved by a particular action or activity.”
As I continued writing these bi-weekly devotional posts, on the morning I wrote this particular post, the “Verse of the Day” was the above verse from Isaiah. I saw some things here to consider that might bless and encourage us.
We belong to God
First, the very fact that twice the scripture declares that we belong to God, and by His mercy, He belongs to us. He is our Redeemer and He alone is the Holy One. He indeed is the one Who restores and returns what was lost.
He is our “Friend”
Second, I saw that He indeed is our teacher, instructor, guide and ever dependable “Friend.” We are never without His presence and mercy.
The Holy Spirit causes us to “profit” spiritually
Then third, my eyes noticed the word “profit,” so I looked up several definitions, and the one that seemed to speak to my heart was the definition that I quoted. A “profit is a good result or advantage that can be achieved by a particular action or activity.”
This is exactly what the Holy Spirit provides for you and me when we seek to do God’s will. We are taught by the Lord to take specific, particular action or activity that produces a good result or advantage.
By seeking the Lord’s will and trusting in His guidance, He provides the faith and action that produce results that glorify His name and bless the people of God.
May the Lord “teach us to profit”!
